If you know me at all you know there is nothing I like better than to load up my car full of grand babies! I am so grateful that these summer days allow that to happen with a little more frequency and I LOVE it!
The conversations are always my favorite and they take on all kinds of interesting subject matter. (And I learn so much about them, like how they were one tardy away from having to go to summer school…Lord have mercy!) Recently as we were loading up I started singing…
“Buckle up for safety,
Buckle up for safety,
Everybody buckle up!”
This opened up a lively conversation about the fact the when their momma and daddy were kids it wasn’t against the law to not wear a seat belt! I explained the whole throwing the right arm across the front seat everytime you stopped so nobody would fall forward. The kids used to argue about who could sit on the “hump”. In case you’re wondering, that’s the little seat that folded down between the driver and passenger seat.
Then that lead to the conversation regarding trash. They were totally astounded that in the “olden days” you could just go down the road throwing garbage out of your car! In fact you could clean out your whole entire car while driving down the road!
I take my role as “Honey” very seriously. If I don’t tell them these amazing facts, who will?
I hope your summer is full of interesting facts and amazing people!
